Brittany Proia (she/her) is a Hudson Valley based actor, producer, director, and educator.

Originally from Olney, Maryland, Brittany has spent her career exploring the art and craft of live theatre performance from all sides of the table. Currently, she teaches acting and voice courses as an Adjunct Professor at the State University of New York at New Paltz, and serves as the Dramatists Guild Ambassador for the Hudson Valley and Capital Regions.

Brittany is passionate about the development of new work and finding sustainability in regional theatre.  From 2017 to January 2020, Brittany served as the Founding co-artistic director and managing director of DENIZEN Theatre, a company founded with the mission to bring dynamic and innovative new works to the Hudson Valley.  She has helped develop new work with The Musical Theatre Factory, The PiTCH at Rev Theatre Co, NYMF, BMI and is currently co-producer, alongside Al Parker, of the world premiere play BLOOM BLOOM POW by Genevieve Simon, directed by Katherine Wilkinson.

As a performer, Brittany has worked regionally and Off-Broadway at such institutions as: New Jersey Rep, The York Theatre Company, Peterborough Players, Urbanite Theatre, IRT Theatre, Asolo Repertory Theatre, Nebraska Shakespeare, Bakerloo Theatre Project, Ozark Actors Theatre, Frog and Peach Theatre Company, The Rev Theatre Co., and most recently the Great River Shakespeare Festival.  She also composes/performs original music and has performed at such concert venues as 54 Below, Rockwood Music Hall, Don't Tell Mama, MTF, and as a semi-finalist at The American Traditions Competition.  Brittany also writes and performs solo cabaret shows regionally and in NYC.

Brittany holds an MFA in Acting from the FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training, a Bachelor of Music from New York University’s Steinhardt School. She is a proud member of both AEA and the Dramatists Guild, a graduate of the Ulster Leadership Development Institute and a proud ‘key’- The Ring of Keys; a national network of queer women, trans, and gender non-conforming artists.
